Celebrate your social side with HockeyFest at Upminster Hockey Club plus GB Athletes

HockeyFest is where clubs across the country open their doors to thousands of new and current players, to showcase the fun social side of their hockey club.

This year’s HockeyFest runs from 18th August – 9th September supported by Notts Sport, will be jam packed with fun and informal events with a big community feel. These can be from a fundraising bake off, taster sessions for beginners to evening socials at the clubhouse; there is an event to suit the whole family.

Essex based hockey club, Upminster will be hosting a fun filled day suitable for the whole family to get active. Great Britain and England athlete and Commonwealth games bronze medallist, Emily Defroand, will be attending in the afternoon alongside U23 Great Britain player Rys Smith.

The club have a series of sessions planned, with a break in the middle to officially celebrate the club’s recent success in being one of the first London clubs to achieve England Hockey and Sport England’s ClubMark status. Throughout the day they will be running some fun competitions and the Stix Duel Arena will be set up. There will be “get to know” area for all of those questions about how to play, the club and core skills.

Hockey Fest highlights the best aspects that the sport has to offer; there is an even split in men and women playing the sport and inclusive to all ages and abilities means it can be an all family affair. With many clubs seeing a range of generations take part in the sport, even featuring in the same league team!

“We are incredibly excited to be hosting an Upminster HockeyFest to kick off what’s going to be a fantastic season for Upminster Hockey Club. Following a sensational summer, showcasing the best hockey on offer across the globe, we’re looking to welcoming back our club members as well as new people to the sport.

Throughout the day there’ll be activities for all the family. HockeyFest will be the official launch our new ways to play with tasters in Flyerz Hockey, Walking Hockey and HockeyFit, along with what we do best, with activities for junior and senior players.” Said event organiser Bella Colafrancesco.

With the heightened exposure of England women winning gold in Rio in 2016 and this summer’s Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup on home turf which saw over 120,000 spectators more people than ever want to give this exciting sport a go.
