Upminster [L1s] 1 v 3 Broxbourne [L1s]

Upminster ladies 1st team welcomed a high flying Broxbourne Ladies 1st team to Coopers on Saturday in search of a 3 valuable points after a string of indifferent results.

It was Upminster who struck first with a goal in the opening minute of the game when Riva Siggins broke and squared the ball to Jemma Cresswell who found the net to stun the away side. Broxbourne starting to get a gip on the game and equalised half way through the 1st half to make the scores 1-1 at half-time.

In the 2nd half Broxbourne continued to press high and forced Upminster into a couple of mistakes, then a fine run and finish from the Broxbourne midfielder saw the away side take the lead. Upminster rallied and thought they’d won a Penalty flick after a block on the line from a defender was only given as a Penalty Corner. The resulting PC was defended well and the U’s were still trailing 2-1 with 20 mins to go. The game was put beyond Upminster when Broxbourne broke quickly and secured the win with a tap in from the Broxbourne forward.

Upminster ladies 1s now travel to Burnt Ash on Saturday looking for some consistency before they head off to compete at the East Indoor Tournament the following weekend.
