Upminster [L1s] 2 v 0 East London [L1s]

Upminster Ladies 1st team bounced back this week with a well fought 2-0 home win against East London Ladies 1st team.

It was the away team who threatened early on, pressing high and forcing Upminster into a few errors. But with a strong defensive performance from DoM Niamh Robeson, Upminster managed to keep the game level until the half time break.
In the 2nd half, Upminster kept the ball much better, successfully stretching the East London press by quickly moving the ball around the back through into midfield. Midway through the 2nd half Upminster worked the ball into the ‘D’ and PoM Alexa Marston got a touch to deflect the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper into the empty net.
It was Marston again who picked the ball outside the ‘D’ and with some audacious dribbling skills, slalomed her way past 4 x East London defenders and when she rounded the goalkeeper, she was impeded which resulted in a Penalty Stroke. Robyn Hodges stepped up and dispatched the stroke to give Upminster a 2-0 lead.
East London tried to push forward to force a goal back but good discipline from the home side saw them keep a clean sheet and take 3 well earned points.
