Upminster [M3s] 3 v 1 Wapping [M7s]

Upminster Mens 3rd team returned to winning ways on Saturday 5th with a well fought home win against Wapping Mens 7th team.

The U’s set up with a much more solid structure to avoid the previous weeks shambles. This restricted both teams to very little in each oppositions ‘D’s as the midfielders battled it out to get a foothold on the game. Wapping began to look brighter on the break and DOTM ‘Jags’ kept out a couple of snapshots from the Wapping forward. Upminster grew in confidence and with just a couple of minutes to half time Matt Tilbury fed Ryan Hodges who’s shot was somehow cleared off the line via the inside of the post.

Upminster felt at half time that they had the quality to break down the stubborn Wapping back line. And it was a switch of wings for Dom Boyle who drove into the ‘D’, put a delightful cross straight onto Tilbury’s stick who made no mistake to open the scoring. Wapping then pushed further forward in search for the equaliser and some great defending from the U’s other DOTM Nick Green kept Upminster in front.

But the pressure eventually told when Wapping snatched an equaliser with around 15 mins to go. Spaces started opening up and this played straight into Upminster’s hand as some great attacking interplay saw Tilbury’s shot saved from the goalkeeper but it fell straight to Boyle who put in into the net. A further goal followed when MOTM Chiverton’s shot was blocked only for Boyle to again finish off the rebound.

Upminster travel to Witham on Saturday in search of some consistency and look to secure back-to-back wins as they did in the opening 2 league fixtures of the season.
