1st Half
From the push back Upminster’s Riva Siggins (Player of Match) was given time and space to press forward , her pass into the Broxbourne D was not capitalised on.
Broxbourne coming forward moved the ball out wide and down the line driving unchallenged into the Upminster D their forward was able to strike the ball goalwards as GK Triggs came out to smoother 0-1. 4 Mins on the clock.
As both teams battled for midfield control Broxbourne’s quick interceptions had Upminster’s defence under pressure; a timely tackle by Bella Boyle and a S/Corner save by GK Triggs kept the score at 0-1.
With Siggins readily available, her driving runs towards the Broxbourne D constantly unsettled the Broxbourne defence and in tandem with Lucy Falzon forced several S/Corners and set up firstly Imogen Hodges and then Kerry Hodges who were unable to get their efforts on target before defensive numbers saw them out.
With the game now flowing from end to end and Broxbourne’s direct long passing into the Upminster D saw Lauren Slater-Harvey’s (Joint Defender of Match) controlled tackling, Boyle’s assured defending and GK Triggs (Joint Defender of Match ) saves deny Broxbourne’s efforts from S/Corner’s and open play.
2nd Half
A misplaced pass in the D gave Broxbourne an early opportunity to increase their lead but quick reactions by GK Triggs smothered the chance.
With strong tackling in midfield by Falzon Upminster looked to release Siggins and Issy Uzal on the wing, a drive into the Broxbourne D by Uzal forced a S/Corner,from her injection Slater-Harvey’s strike beat the GK at the near post 1-1
As both teams exchanged possession Upminster continued to find Siggins who was a constant threat firstly just missing a pass across the goal area and then being closed down by the Keeper.
With Broxbourne’s direct passing from deep into the Upminster area Upminster’s defensive unit remained resolute and with a combination of strong tackling and astute goalkeeping kept them at bay.
