1st Half
Upminsters early pressure saw two S/Corners not capitalised on, growing into the game Broxbourne’s first S/Corner saw GK Charlotte Triggs (Defender of Match) dive full length saving a goal bound effort with her stick, from the resultant clearance Upminster worked the ball downfield, with numbers in the D Megan Miller found room to send the ball into the goal 1-0 7 Mins. Lucy Quinlan’s quick movement and pace was continually causing Broxbourne problems, from a S/Corner a combination of Miller,Lauren Slater-Harvey and Amy Byrne saw Coco Thomas’ anticipation rewarded as she opened her first team account, finishing well from close range 2-0 on 8 Mins.
Player of Match Izzy Uzals continual closing down in midfield pressed Upminster forward creating opportunities, Uzal and Kerry Hodges combined to release Imogen Hodges but she was denied by the advancing Keeper whilst Uzals quick interception on the half way line saw her carry the ball towards goal only to be denied by the retreating defenders.
As half time approached Broxbourne looked to reduce the deficit but Triggs deflected a goalbound effort wide.
2nd Half
Beginning the half in the ascendancy, constant pressure rewarded Broxbourne with two S/Corners, despite Triggs initial save’s Upminster failed to clear their lines and saw their advantage reduced 2-1.As Broxbourne continued to press forward Triggs again saved low down, again unable to clear the ball saw the game levelled at 2-2 43 Mins.
With Upminster looking to get a foothold in the game the defensive unit worked hard to restrict any clear Broxbourne chances, Quinlan & Thomas movement and constant availability enabled Upminster to work the ball forward, a searching ball into the D by Drew Bailey saw Kerry Hodges just fail to connect.
Quick anticipation by Uzal on half way saw her intercept a pass and send Upminster forward with a 3 v 1 advantage, as the Keeper came out Quinlan kept her cool, slipping the ball inside the post making it 3-2 on 65 Mins.
In the final minutes a S/Corner by Broxbourne was defended well to see Upminster to victory.
