1st Half
An intense game was settled by a solitary goal as Upminster Women were edged out by League Leaders Bishop Stortford, Stortford’s movement and quick passing had Upminster’s defence under pressure early on but solid defending kept them out whilst Keeper Charlotte Triggs saved well when called upon.
As Upminster came into the game Issey Uzal’s forward runs kept the Stortford defence busy whilst Maz Baldwin and Amy Bryne looked to keep the play in and around the Stortford D
With composed and solid defending by both teams the half ended without any clear chances created to open the scoring.
2nd Half
Stortford opened the scoring on 38 Mins following a long pass into the Upminster D which was redirected across the goal and deflected home.
Upminster composed themselves and looked to retain possession and raise the tempo.
With (Defender of the Match) Lauren Slater-Harvey always on hand to break up Stortford attacks Upminster went in search of an equalizer.
As Upminster began to overturn possession (Player of Match) Drew Bailey was finding space and was constantly putting Stortford under pressure, creating a chance for Byrne who just failed to connect with a pass and combining with Lucy Falzon whose effort went across the area, whilst a break from midfield saw Upminster with numbers over as they approached the Stortford area but the final pass fell short.
With Upminster pressing forward, Stortford’s long downfield passes into the Upminster area saw them awarded several Short Corners which the defensive unit were equal to.
With time running out a final drive forward by Slater-Harvey deep into the Stortford D looked to have earned a Short Corner but it was not meant to be.
