1st Half
Upminster Women were denied victory against Cambridge City 3’s on Saturday by fine margins, Izzy Uzal, Alexa Marston, Lucy Rolfe & (Player of Match) Megan Miller continually pressed forward looking to attack the City D but were unable to create any meaningful chances from open play.
Having won several Short Corners the closest Upminster came to scoring was a Lucy Falzon strike hitting the bar.
With possession continually overturned City sent long passes downfield exploiting the space available, keeping Upminster’s defensive unit alert and focused.
City, having won a Short Corner, worked the ball around the D and despite the efforts of the defenders slipped the ball in from an acute angle 1-0.
2nd Half
Playing higher up the pitch Upminster raised the intensity as they looked to get back on even terms, Rolfe, Amy Byrne, Imogen Hodges and Uzal’s constant pressing forced City into errors as play was contained in the City half and D.
Winning several Short Corners a Lauren Slater-Harvey effort was deflected wide whilst another was illegally stopped on the line. Miller made no mistake from the resultant Flick 1-1
With the game in the balance Upminster pushed for the winner Miller’s pass found Kerry Hodges in the D whose first time effort struck the post, a Falzon drive towards goal was blocked off by the Keeper whilst Uzal’s quick thinking and anticipation saw her drive and pass across the D just fail to be converted by Hodges.
Upminster though were indebted to (Defender of Match) Drew Bailey who was on hand to prevent a City breakaway getting into the Upminster area.
Result 1-1
