Basildon Men’s 1s (2 v 0) Upminster Men’s 2s
Upminster Men’s 2s unbeaten start to the season was ended on Saturday by a strong Basildon Men’s 1st team.
In very unseasonable warm conditions the Men’s 2s found it tough going in the 1st half as Basildon made full use of their home pitch by moving the ball well around the back waiting for a long pass down field to their forward line.
Upminsters best chance of the half fell to Michael Scrivener, after good work from Ethan Berry, Scrivener was in against the Basildon GK who stood strong to deny on 2 occasions.
The breakthrough was made midway through the first half when the Basildon midfielder rode a couple of challenges to hit a reverse into the bottom corner. This was shortly doubled when the Basildon forward spun and released a shot into the goal to take a deserved 2-0 lead into the break.
Upminster came out 2nd half looking for a quick response and were on top for the opening 10 minutes of the half forcing a couple of PCs that came to nothing. The game petered out as Basildon sat deep behind the ball snuffling up any chance of a strike on goal.
Upminster Men’s 2s face another tough trip this Saturday 19th November when they visit table topping Saffron Walden.
