Upminster Women 1st X1 succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Cambridge City 2nd X1 on Saturday.
With Issey Uzal constantly taking play into the City D Upminster pressed for the opening goal (Player of Match) Amy Byrne created space for herself at the top of the D to strike a good effort goal wards which was saved by the City Keeper.
Breaking out of defence and quick passing by City had them pressing forward, with solid defending by Lauren Slater-Harvey and Bryne efforts on target were restricted whilst Keeper Charlotte Triggs saved well when diving low down.
Although under pressure Upminster’s passing out of defence allowed Uzal to drive forward testing the City defence earning a Short Corner.
From a long pass downfield City found their forward in space at top of the D her strike through advancing defenders found its way in giving City the lead on 23 Mins.
With Maz Baldwin directing play and forceful running by Lucy Quinlan exploiting space in the D Upminster earned several Short Corners as they went in search of the equalizer.
City kept moving play around, a Short Corner on half time was saved by Triggs but acting quickly the high rebound was put away making it 2-0.
2nd Half
With Baldwin and Kerry Hodges raising the tempo and driving Upminster forward, Byrne saw her effort blocked.
As Upminster pressed forward City found space opening up sending passes dangerously across the area whilst several Short Corners tested the Upminster defence but with (Defender of Match) Faye Dixey defending resolutely and Triggs saving any efforts goalwards Upminster were able to clear play out of the area.
With Uzal, Quinlan, Byrne and Coco Thomas pressing forward Upminster earned several Short Corners of their own, from one a goalbound effort by Slater Harvey was saved by the City Keeper, and with Byrne unable to find a way past the City Defence and Uzal forced wide from an Alexa Marston pass Upminster were denied a consolation.
