Cambridge City 2nd X1 (3 v 0) UHC Ladies 1st X1 – 14th October 2023

1st Half

With both Upminster & Cambridge City looking for an opening Drew Bailey, Imogen Hodges & Izzy Uzal combined taking Upminster forward towards the Cambridge D , unable to keep play in the City half Upminster were continuously tested by Cambridge City forwards but with Lauren Slater Harvey & Michelle Wright strong and solid in defence City were unable to test GK Triggs

With 10 Mins gone a City forward was able to evade the Upminster defenders and create a shooting opportunity which struck the post and rebounded in off the diving Triggs 1-0 City.

With Cambridge City pressing high up the field their sustained pressure had the Upminster defence working tirelessly to clear the danger, with Wright linking up well with Bailey getting Upminster moving down the field to the City half .

Continued Cambridge passing down the line had Upminster’s defence stretched, resulting in a City forward unmarked with time to send a reverse effort inside the post making it 2-0 on 19 Mins.

As Upminster battled strongly in midfield looking for inroads into the City  D a Lucy Falzon through ball towards the P Spot did not find any forwards whilst  Wright & Faye Hilson combined to send Uzal clear her skilful run took her onto the GK but with Defenders and GK closing her down her effort was deflected away by the GK’s leg.

With half time approaching City’s sustained attacks forced two Short Corners which the defence cleared

2nd Half

In the opening minutes play was concentrated in the Upminster half as City continued to press high, GK Triggs was firstly called into action saving a strike from a short corner then as City’s passing into the D threatened a further effort on goal Triggs made a double point blank save.

With Upminsters defence working tirelessly to clear the ball upfield they were able to get their passing together and took play out of their half.

With City winning back possession they continued to send passes down the line driving into the D from out wide forcing a further short corner which was saved.

As space opened up in midfield Upminster were able to move the ball out wide allowing Imogen Hodges & Uzal to combine and send a hopeful pass into the City D and with players forward Upminster were able to apply some pressure on the City defence with Freya Long and Falzon looking to create an opening inside the City D whilst good interchanging passing between Rebbecca Pearson, Megan Miller, Uzal and Imogen Hodges kept the play and some pressure on the City defence without a clear opportunity at goal arising.

As Upminster pressed forward Cambridge City were also able to exploit the gaps but solid work from Triggs and the defence kept them at bay, until on 61 Mins a pass to the top of the D gave the City forward time to prise out an opening sending her shot with the aid of a deflection past the Keeper made it 3-0.

As time counted down the hard working Wright (DOM) skilfully evaded two players to bring the ball out of defence whilst GK Triggs was called upon to dive at the oncoming forwards feet as City threatened the Upminster goal.
