Men’s 2s

Havering Men’s 2s (1 v 6) Upminster Men’s 2s

Upminster Men’s 2nd X1 were crowned East Men’s Division 3 South East Champions on Sunday 2nd April, when their own Upminster Men’s 3rd X1 sealed an unlikely 1-0 away win over fellow title challengers Basildon HC.

Without knowing this outcome Upminster Men’s 2s started a little shaky as the hosts Havering moved the ball around well but lacked the cutting edge to take the lead.

Upminster started to press higher up the pitch and Steve Wright hit a straight strike past the Havering GK to go 1-0 up. Ollie Cipa then got his 1st and 2nd goals with 2 x Drag Flicks to take Upminster 3-0 up at half-time.

Upminster started the 2nd half as they finished with immense pressure on the Havering backline. And they were rewarded with a fine 4th goal from Phil Hudson who tapped home a square pass from Cipa after some excellent passing through the midfield to create the opportunity. Ollie Cipa got his hat-trick with an excellent backspace shot into the bottom right hand corner before Phil Hudson got Upminsters 6th goal of the game with a fine rebounded shot from a Penalty Corner.

Havering rallied and got a late consolation goal when a breakaway was tucked away from the Havering forward but fortunately this 1 goal was enough for Upminster Men’s 2s to win the title on goal difference by just 1 goal.
