Men’s 5s go marching on…

Upminster 5 overcame a two goal deficit to beat a competitive Maldon second team on Saturday.

Maldon opened the scoring in the first minute of the game, before doubling their lead with a reverse stick strike. Unperturbed, Upminster’s attack of Paul Scott, Lester Farrant and Ollie Peck made life difficult for the Maldon defence, and just before the half-time whistle, the evergreen Farrant crossed for veteran Scott to score from close range.

In the second half Upminster controlled proceedings, with significant efforts from Matthew Tilbury, Chris Szpak, Ryan Davidson Pearce, and Jake Eade at the heart of Upminster’s midfield. The game was levelled through a penalty flick from Peck, before Man of the Match, James Cargill put Upminster in the lead for the first time. Shortly before the final whistle, Peck completed his brace from a short corner.

Upminster 5 will play Old Southendians 5 at Coopers on Saturday, as they look to maintain their unbeaten run.
