1st Half
Upminster looked to move the play forward from the start, but Amy Byrne, Megan Miller and Player of Match Imogen Hodges linking up well they were unable to make inroads into the Norwich area.
With the Norwich defence sending long passes downfield Upminster were asked to defend deep in their own half and were unable to settle into any sort of rhythm. Keeper Charlotte Triggs was called upon to clear her area as Norwich kept play around Uminsters D. Looking to move the ball forward Faye Hilsons clearance sent Lucy Quinlan clear into the Norwich D resulting in an Upminster S/Corner.
From the injection Defender of Match Drew Bailey’s effort from the edge of the D found Imogen Hodges in space who finished well from close range and in doing so opened her 1st Team account. 1-0 on 15 Mins.
Despite taking the lead Upminster were unable to build on this, often overturning possession and being pinned back in and around their own area.With solid defending by Bella Boyle, Bailey and with Triggs saving at the foot of the post plus with the determination Lucy Falzon & Bryne in midfield Norwich were unable to level the score.
With Upminster looking to find their forwards at every opportunity and by working the ball out wide and with quick interchange passes through the middle firstly Uzal was forced wide by the advancing Keeper and then following a slick pass by Falzon, Quinlan was also forced out wide by the Keeper.
2nd Half
Raising the tempo, Upminster took the game to Norwich keeping and maintaining play around the Norwich D, as Upminster went in search of a 2nd Goal.
Constant pressure from the forwards saw Uzal overturn possession and drive in towards the goal finishing well as the Keeper came out 2-0 on 45 Mins.
With the momentum in their favour Upminster though were subject to passes through their defensive line but Bailey’s covering work and Triggs alertness ensured Norwich did not open their account.
Moving the ball quickly Upminster were a constant threat, driving in from the backline Upminster forced several S/Corners, from one Maz Baldwin sent her strike through the defenders making it 3-0 on 55 Mins whilst from another the Norwich Keeper did well to deny Uzal’s deflection.
Seeking to get on the score sheet Norwich forced several S/Corners in a row, but were denied by a combination of Triggs and the defensive unit as the game moved towards the final whistle.
