RIP – Ron Macdonald

It is with much sadness that we have to inform members of the passing of Ron Macdonald. After battling ill health in the past few years he died peacefully in his sleep on Monday 12th March 2018.

Ron was a long standing member of Upminster Hockey Club, joining as a youngster in the 1960’s. It was soon clear that Ron was a natural goal scorer and this attribute ensured his swift upward movement through the sides, eventually establishing himself as the 1st team centre forward for many years. Testament to this is clearly visible in the clubhouse with Ron winning of the Brian Broad Award for top scorer on a number of occasions. Ron was also Club Captain for many years and an ever present on the many tours to the Isle of Thanet that the club attended for many years. In later years Ron played in the lower 11’s and was instrumental in the development of many of our younger players. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends from Upminster Hockey Club.

Once we have the funeral arrangements, they will be posted on the site.
