After a cancelation a couple of weeks again due to a Frozen pitch the Men’s 2s visited Southend looking to secure another 3 points in Div 2SE.
Early pressure from Upminster was rewarded when a fine run and pass from Joe Bishop found Steve Wright in the ‘D’ who managed to divert the ball into the goal to take the lead. This was short lived as Southend struck back within 5 mins with a slick counter attack. The game turned a little scrapy before Upminster scored their 2nd goal of the game through another goal from Wright. But again Southend struck back when a Penalty Flick was awarded and the scores were level at half-time.
Upminster changed their formation at half-time and this made a huge difference as they started to dominate possession of the ball. The 3rd goal of the game was scored by Josh Cipa from a Penalty Corner before Southend had another flick awarded after it struck an Upminster hand on the goal line. Fortunately, the Penalty Flick was saved by Mit Shah.
Upminster then went on and found the 4th & 5th goals through Gus Siggins and Will Doyle to get a hard fought victory.
Upminster Men’s 2s sit 7th in the table with 17 points looking to push on after Christmas to the Top 6.
