Upminster Mens 1s swept aside Chelmsford Mens 2s on the last day of the season to record a 4-0 win, and a top 3 finish in the league.
Tobi Dunlea opened the scoring in the first half with a trademark reverse finish into the bottom left corner, before Liam Robertson doubled their lead just before half time as he found space on the baseline off a Dunlea pass to squeeze a great finish past the keeper at the near post.
A green card courtesy of Callum Berry threatened to allow a brief Chelmsford comeback, however the home side weathered the storm led by defender of the match Harry Jenkins.
Berry made up for his earlier card to record Upminster’s third goal, a simple tap in past the keeper this time. The fourth was again provided by Dunlea, after a slick penalty corner routine saw Upminster’s talisman net his second – much to the crowd’s delight.
A positive finish to a positive season overall for the 1st team, however next season they will be hoping to push on for a promotion that many feel they were unfortunate to miss this time round.
