1st Half
Upminster’s 1st X1 Women entertained Norwich Dragons as the 2nd Half of the season began on Saturday. Amy Byrne & Lucy Falzon were busy in midfield driving Upminster forward in search of the opening goal, whilst Upminster’s Defence remained focused and alert as Norwich Dragons looked to drive into the D from out wide.
Although both sides exchanged Short Corners play was contested mostly outside the respective areas with chances to open the scoring limited.
Izzy Uzal (Player of Match) anticipation saw her power forward evading several defenders before sending a shot past the Dragons Keeper putting Upminster 1-0 on 22 Mins.
As Norwich came forward Falzon’s precise pass from deep in her own half split the Dragons defensive line sending Uzal clean through where she calmly rounded the Keeper finishing well on 35 mins 2-0.
2nd Half
Looking to build on their advantage Upminster continued to press forward with Bryne and Lauren Slater Harvey combining to send an effort wide and although Upminster had several S/Corners they were unable to make them count.
Dragons long downfield passes through the middle proved dangerous but the defence were quick to intercept with (Defender of Match) Bella Boyle prominent and no clear opportunities arose whilst two late Dragons S/Corners came to nothing.
As time was up a forceful surge into the Upminster D saw the Dragons forward force the ball over the line through several players.
Result 2-1
