UHC Women 1st X1 (3 v 1) City of Peterborough 1st X1 – 30/11/24

1st Half

Pressing forward from the start Izzy Uzal (Player of Match) & Lucy Quinlan looked to make inroads into the City of Peterborough area.

Lucy Falzon’s energetic running and cross into the area earned Upminster an early S/Corner, from which COP broke forward quickly earning their own S/Corner which came to nothing.

Whilst Upminster took the game forward they were subject to swift counter attacks from COP but resolute defending by Lauren Slater-Harvey (Defender of Match ) enabled Upminster to block any efforts at goal and contain COP to outside the area.

With Drew Bailey & Amy Byrne pressing forward and with long passes into D, Upminster had COP defending in number which restricted opportunities to test the Keeper.

Continued pressure resulted in a S/Corner, working the ball around the D , Slater-Harvey’s strike towards goal was stopped on the line by a defender’s foot.

From the Penalty Flick Megan Miller put Upminster 1-0 on 28 Mins.

Growing in confidence and pressing for a 2nd, Bailey’s quick pass found Kerry Hodges in the D whose sharp reactions saw her effort go wide.

2nd Half

Pressing for an equaliser COP came up against a solid Upminster defence as Faye Dixey, Rosie Pettingill and Slater-Harvey continually cleared the danger and with Alexa Marston and Miller taking play forward Upminster looked to increase their lead.

Quick anticipation by Uzal saw her intercept the ball on the half way line and saw her carry the ball towards the goal, as the Keeper closed her down Uzal calmly found the backboard making it 2-0 on 40 Mins.

COP now applied more pressure and were rewarded as the forward generated space and sent her goal bound effort through a packed defence reducing the deficit on 45 Mins.

Moving forward in numbers COP looked to level up the score but Upminster remained calm working the ball out of defence into space and moving play out wide with Marston, Miller, Falzon , Kerry Hodges and Coco Thomas trying to generate an opening but COP kept them at bay.

COP meanwhile finding room in the Upminster area were halted by a combination of GK Charlotte Triggs and Slater-Havery.

The ever lively Uzal and Quinlan combined well, generating an opportunity for Quinlan who was denied by the Keeper.

From an Upminster S/Corner Maz Baldwin reacted quickest to a loose ball and put Upminster 3-1 up on 61 Mins.

With no further clear opportunities Upminster saw out the game to win 3-1.
