Upminster Hockey Club are seeking an ambitious coach to join our Coaching Team as the Ladies Performance Coach for the 2022-2023 season.
About us:
Upminster Hockey Club is a vibrant, friendly club of over 500 members and 24 teams. Based on the London/Essex borders, the Club provides year-round playing opportunities for our members, led by a pool of committed and supportive volunteers.
The ladies section has 6 teams spread right through the East Playing Leagues, with the Ladies 1s playing East Premier League and the Ladies 2s and 3s both playing in East Div 2 (SE).
The successful candidate will be joining the club with a long-term vision of growing the talent among the ladies section, establishing the Ladies 1s as a top flight competitor in the East Prem (Outdoor and Indoor Competitions) and progressing the Ladies 2 into East Div 1(S).
About You:
We are looking to hear from coaches with playing and/or coaching experience at the higher end of the Regional League Structures (Div 1 or Prem) at a minimum, however some previous exposure at National League Level or from within the England Hockey Performances System would be desirable.
Personal Specification:
- Experience of the performance hockey environment
- A track record of junior performance development would be desirable
- An individual who is well-organised to manage Assistant Coaches and sessions of up to 25 people
- A creative and forward thinking coach to bring fresh ideas to the squad, offer fun and challenging opportunities to play
- Energetic, positive, and nurturing, while still ambitious / visionary and challenging.
- Someone looking for a long-term project and excited at the prospect of taking the Ladies Section forward.
The Role
- Matchday Saturday Coaching with the Ladies 1s with matchday support to the Ladies 2s where possible
- Lead Performance Coach for weekly training (currently Wednesdays, 8.00pm-9:30pm)
- Reports to Director of Hockey and will work closely with Ladies 1st Team Captain & Vice Captain, Ladies Chair of Selectors and other Club Coaches.
Responsibilities
- Planning and delivering training to the Ladies Performance Squad from pre-season and throughout the Outdoor Season (August to April).
- Managing L1 at fixtures (and L2 where feasible).
Opportunities for growth
The following isn’t a formal requirement of the role, but the Club would be open to discussing ideas and appetite for improving the performance framework within the ladies section. This could include:
- Earlier involvement with the team and to work alongside the existing Player/Coach
- Coaching the Ladies Indoor Team/s
- Introduction of additional training (indoor or outdoor – subject to venue availability)
- Coach Development – working with Club Volunteer Coaches
- Coaching Ladies Summer League (subject to team entry)
- Other coaching opportunities with lower ladies sides and junior girls hockey
Pay – competitive, linked to coaching qualifications, previous experience and any appropriate on-costs. You be contracted to the Club on a self-employed basis.
