Upminster Ladies 1st X1 (1 v 5) Broxbourne 1st X1

Upminster entertained Broxbourne at Coopers Arena on Saturday 25th Feb , with Broxbourne starting the game stronger and being quicker in moving the ball around , Upminster’s defence were under constant pressure with GK Triggs making several saves to keep the score at 0-0.

Upminster continued to send long passes down field for their attackers to chase and take the game towards the Broxbourne D but with play broken up Broxbourne continued to threaten Upminster’s area.

On 10 Mins a Short Corner and fierce strike from the edge of the D struck home making it 1-0 to Broxbourne.

After 20 Mins a long pass out wide found Riva Siggins who with space to move forward sent a long pass into the Broxbourne D which found the in form Kerry Hodges who dispatched the ball into the goal making it 1-1.

With Broxbourne quick to anticipate Upminsters long passes out from the back the Upminster Defensive unit held strong as Broxbourne pressed forward in numbers looking to create more opportunities, with GK Triggs making a point blank save and the Defence clearing two Short Corners in quick succession.

Following a further short coner and unable to clear the ball, Broxbourne were able to squeeze home an effort tight on the post making it 2-1 as the half time whistle went.

As the 2nd half began Upminster pressed forward in numbers working the ball out wide resulting in two long balls into and across the Broxbourne D from which any deft touch towards goal was just agonisingly missing.

With Riva Siggins & Aimee Banks working tirelessly to retrieve the ball and maintain the pressure on Broxbourne’s defence Upminster earned a Short Corner.

From the short Ellen Kozlowska’s effort caused a scramble around the goal resulting in a goal bound effort being stopped illegally resulting in the award of a penalty flick.

Upminster though were unable to make the flick count as the shot went narrowly wide.

Broxbourne now looked to press Upminster back playing the ball out wide and quickly into and around the Upminster D testing Upminster’s Defence,

On 56 Mins a deflected shot gave Broxbourne a cushion of a 3-1 lead,

As Upminster looked to progress forward, Broxbourne were quick to intercept any loose passes keeping Upminsters defence under pressure and maintaining the play in or around the Upminster D.

From the 2nd of two Short Corners Broxbourne made it 4-1.

As the game moved towards its conclusion Broxbourne were able to tap in a fifth goal on the line following a scramble in the D.
