Upminster 5s remain in search of their first points of the season after a very disappointingly narrow defeat to Southend 3s. An early goal by the visitor’s was quickly cancelled out by a one-touch strike from Man of the Match Paul Middlemiss. Middlemiss’ goal culminated in Upminster playing some of their best hockey of the season, laying siege to the Southend goal, whose keeper pulled off numerous inspired saves.
The second half saw Upminster continue to press, however, a hotly disputed, but well executed short corner saw the visitor’s regain the lead, and in spite of further Upminster pressure, the travelling team held out for their second win of the season.
