Upminster Mens 2s 1 v 4 Brentwood Mens 1s

Upminster Mens 2nd team welcomed high-flying neighbours Brentwood Mens 1st team to Coopers, who had been averaging 7 goals per game on the lead up to this match.

After a decent start to the season, Upminster always knew that this would be a real test to see how far they have come as a team after a fairly disappointing season last year. Approx 10 minutes had passed when Brentwood took the lead after some slick passing, they cut open the U’s defence to take a deserved 1-0 lead. But this seemed to spark the home team into life and around the half way point of the first half, a flowing move saw Jack Downes pick up a rebound from the Brentwood keeper and slot it into the open goal. Brentwood scored again to make it 2-1 at the break.
Upminster’s game plan of keeping things tight in the 2nd half come a little undone as within 2 minutes of the restart a hopeful ball into the U’s ‘D’ was not taken care of and the Brentwood forward dispatched the ball into the goal. Again the U’s did not give up and through great work in the middle from MOTM Nick O’Dell and some stout defending from DOTM Chris Abrey the U’s restricted Brentwood to very few chances. And with a little more luck the U’s could have been back in the game had Mike Scrivener and Dom Boyle converted a couple of half chances. Brentwood wrapped the game up in the closing minutes with a strike from a PC to make it 4-1 to keep their 100% win record going for another week.
Upminster 2s now travel to East London on Saturday looking to bounce straight back after their first defeat of the season.
MOTM – O’Dell
DOTM – Abrey
