Week 4 – We did it!

Sunday 12th July was the last day of the 31 day Upminster Hockey Club Summer League Challenge. Their original target of 15,252kms was the distance from London to all of the UEFA EURO 2020 host nation cities.

After reaching the original distance half way through the challenge, the club then set a new target of 30,000kms. With some incredible efforts such as 3 marathon runs in the final week from Tom Dance, 100kms Cycle rides around Essex, Kent and many walking total distances of 300kms the club amassed a final total of 32,339kms.

Organiser Ryan Hodges commented ‘From what was an idea at the start of lockdown to see what has been achieved has gone way beyond my expectations. I can’t thank everyone enough for their superhuman efforts and support throughout the challenge.’

Alongside this we have been looking to raise money for the club with half being donated to Havens Hospices. This currently stands at an incredible £3,071 which again was more than our original £2,000 target.

Havens Hospices commented ‘Thank you so much to everyone taking part, you are all ‘Havens Heroes’, every pound raised is helping us to continue ‘Making every day count’ for families when they need us most.’

The donation page will be open until the end of the month.
